The church takes its name from the Reverend Thomas Jollie formerly Vicar of Altham who left the established church in 1662 to hold sercret services Whymondhouses, a farm on Wiswell Moors.
Services were held there until 1831, when the congregation moved to Wiswell village, in 1887 they moved to Barrow and named the church after the founding minister.
