BACK TO T Livingstone PAST |
After researching the Livingstone family for over 10 years I have now been able to trace their origins to Kilsyth in Stirlingshire thanks to Ancestry.co.uk putting transcriptions of the Scottish census online. Prior to that the earliest Livingstone or Livingston as they appeared to be then was John. He married Jean Allen on 25th January 1800 in Dalry, Ayrshire and both were described as being "of this Parish" However the census of 1841 shows that John was born outside the county of Ayrshire between 1775 and 1780. Neither John or his wife are in Dalry in 1851. However I have now found John aged 72y with his son, also John in Campbeltown, Argyll and his place of birth is given as Kilsyth.
EUREKA - sort off!!
I have always been told there is a connection to Dr David Livingstone but so far haven't managed to find it and indeed had decided there was no connection. However after 10 years of research I have recently come across an entry in the Hudson Bay Company records that suggests there may after all be a connection as it states:- "a fairly close relative of Dr David Livingstone" However I can't as yet see where the connection might lie.
